Capt. Robert C. Cherry, Jr. (’90) with check for biology department

Donors

Capt. Robert C. Cherry, Jr. (’90)

Gift

Creation of the Captain Bob Cherry Jr. and the Cherry Trust Endowed Fund for Excellence for Hancock Biological Station

Impact

This fund creates a permanent source of support for the Hancock Biological Station to use to enhance its resources, maintain and upgrade its equipment, and develop special programs and research in order to provide its students with top-notch hands-on learning experiences in biological field studies.

Inspiration

Son of retired Paducah mayor Robert Cherry Sr. and long-time Paducah teacher and ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ State alumna Lynn Cherry, Capt. Cherry has long held a special place in his heart for Hancock Biological Station. Not only does he care about Hancock’s mission of field research and hands-on learning, but the Station also helped him earn his bachelor’s degree from ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ State. While traveling with the Merchant Marine, he was able to park his boat, pitch a tent, and shower at Hancock and work with Hancock’s faculty to translate some of his life experience into college credit towards his degree.
